THE MOREHOUSE GOLF CLASSIC

The Morehouse Golf Classic is one of the Baltimore Morehouse Alumni Foundation’s signature fundraising events. This annual tradition brings alumni, donors, and supporters together to raise scholarship funds for Baltimore-area Men of Morehouse who demonstrate financial need. Through golf, fellowship, and community partnership, the Classic strengthens our long-standing commitment to student success.

A Tradition of Scholarship, Brotherhood, and Community

Origins of the Classic

The Morehouse Golf Classic began in 1984. The idea was created during a return trip from Morehouse College’s Homecoming in 1983. Two alumni, Tommy Johnson and Mac McCoy ’65, discussed the increasing financial challenges facing students. They envisioned a charitable golf event to support students in need. The first tournament honored African American contributions to golf and created a space for fellowship, mentorship, and community engagement.

Revival and Expansion

The tournament was revived in 2011 by the Baltimore Morehouse Alumni Association. It later expanded through collaboration with the Washington, D.C. Metro Morehouse Alumni Chapter. Since then, tournaments have been hosted in both the DMV and Atlanta, helping raise funds to support Morehouse students facing financial need.

A Legacy of Impact

For more than a decade, the Golf Classic has raised significant scholarship funds. These funds help students remain enrolled, bridge financial aid gaps, access academic resources, and overcome emergency hardships. This support strengthens the pipeline of Baltimore-area students attending Morehouse College.

Our Mission

The Morehouse Golf Classic supports students who need financial assistance to continue their education at Morehouse College. Funds raised through the tournament directly support:

  • Scholarships for Baltimore-area Men of Morehouse
  • Emergency financial assistance
  • Textbook, resource, and supply needs
  • Academic retention and completion

Participation from alumni, donors, sponsors, and volunteers helps sustain this mission and expand access for future Morehouse Men.

Why We Play

The Morehouse Golf Classic uses the game of golf to:

  • Strengthen relationships among alumni
  • Encourage collective giving
  • Support student achievement and well-being
  • Celebrate the legacy and values of Morehouse College
  • Create partnerships that uplift young men

Each registration, sponsorship, and donation helps shape the future of students striving to become leaders.
